Corporate Ka Naya Language Pack
“Gurugram ki us chamakti office building ke neeche khade Aarav ko pehli baar laga ki degree se zyada zaroori yahan ek alag hi language thi.”
Subah ke 8:40 the, aur Aarav apne crisp white shirt ke collar ko baar-baar seedha kar raha tha jaise usse lag raha ho ki collar theek ho jaayega toh confidence bhi automatic aa jaayega. Gurgaon ki traffic ne uski already half-damaged energy ko aur crush kar diya tha. Metro se utar ke auto, phir footpath pe tez chalna, phir security gate par ID dikhana—sab kuch ek exam jaisa lag raha tha. Aur exam bhi aisa jisme question paper pehle hi kisi aur language mein print ho chuka ho.
Security guard ne usse ek polite sa nod diya. “First day?”
Aarav ne smile kiya. “Haan, sir.”
“Third floor, lift se jao. Welcome.”
Itna simple welcome sunke usko thoda relief hua, lekin relief zyada der nahi tikne wala tha. Lobby mein polished marble, glass walls, aur aise log chal rahe the jaise unke paas time nahi, sirf target hote hain. Sabke haath mein coffee cups, phones, files, aur face par woh expression jo corporate logon ka permanent default mode lagta hai—busy but in control.
Aarav lift ke paas khada tha, aur uske saath ek woman standing thi—sharp navy blazer, sleek bun, aur ek aisi walk jo clearly bol rahi thi ki woh kisi ka wait nahi karti. Usne bas ek baar Aarav ki ID dekhi aur bola, “New joinee?”
“Ji,” Aarav ne dheere se kaha.
“Neha Sood. Team lead. Third floor pe hi ho na?”
“Haan, ma’am.”
Neha ne bas ek quick nod diya. “Cool. Today is mostly onboarding, but we need you to get aligned quickly. There’s a lot of stakeholder mapping and a couple of deliverables pending. Pooja will brief you.”
Aarav ne “aligned,” “stakeholder mapping,” aur “deliverables” teenon words ko mentally file karne ki koshish ki, but file system already hang ho chuka tha. Woh bas itna samjha ki aaj se uski life mein “brief” ka matlab shayad “confuse but politely” hoga.
Lift aayi. Uske andar already teen log the—ek banda phone pe “Yes boss, let’s circle back” bol raha tha, ek aur laptop khol ke kuch spreadsheet dekh rahi thi, aur teesra banda coffee sip karte hue kisi ko message type kar raha tha: “Need to sync ASAP.” Aarav ne khud ko mirror mein dekha. Uska face uss lift ke polished steel mein bhi thoda lost lag raha tha.
Lift ke numbers dhire-dhire upar ja rahe the, aur Aarav ke andar anxiety bhi. Third floor pe doors khule. Ek narrow corridor, glass cabins, aur ek reception desk jahan Pooja khadi thi—simple kurti, warm smile, aur aankhon mein woh expression jo bol raha tha, “Relax, main hoon na.”
“Aarav?” Pooja ne poocha.
“Ji.”
“Main Pooja. HR aur thoda office buddy type. Chalo, pehle cabin dikha deti hoon.”
Woh usko ek desk tak le gayi, jahan ek laptop, notepad, aur ek plant rakha tha jo obviously fake tha, but office ki decor team ne usko “fresh vibe” ka naam de diya tha. Pooja ne usko seat dikhayi aur bola, “First day pe sabse important cheez: pretend karna ki tumhe sab samajh aa raha hai. But tension mat lo, aadat pad jaati hai.”
Aarav hansa, par kaafi weakly. “Aadat kis cheez ki? Jargon ki?”
Pooja ne ek chhota sa smile diya. “Exactly.”
Thodi der baad orientation call start hua. Ek conference room mein sab log baith gaye—Neha, Pooja, Aarav, aur ek screen par Mr. Khurana ka face. Delhi office se video call. Mr. Khurana 45 ke the, tie perfect, hair carefully combed, aur voice mein woh authority jo khud ko important feel karne ke liye extra volume use karti ho.
“Good morning, team,” Mr. Khurana ne kaha. “Let’s ensure complete alignment on the onboarding synergy and ownership framework. We need visible momentum on the deliverables.”
Aarav ne bas blink kiya.
Neha turant bol padi, “Yes, absolutely. Aarav, today you’ll shadow the workflow, understand the stakeholder matrix, and then take ownership of the initial deck.”
Aarav ko laga uska naam suna, par actual task ka matlab uske paas se nikal ke kisi parallel universe mein chala gaya. Usne timidly haath uthaya. “Sorry, ma’am… shadow the workflow matlab? Aur deck… kaunsa deck?”
Room mein ek half-second silence aaya. Pooja ne apni pen ko table pe lightly tap kiya, jaise usse already pata ho ki yeh moment aane wala tha. Neha ne smile ki, but woh corporate smile thi—chehre pe, dil mein nahi.
“Matlab observe karo,” Neha ne quickly explain kiya. “And deck is the presentation. Simple.”
Aarav ne nod kiya. “Okay.”
Mr. Khurana screen pe thoda jhuk ke bole, “We need a proactive mindset, Aarav. Don’t hesitate to flag if there is any gap in your understanding. Transparency is key.”
Aarav ke mann mein aaya: “Gap toh abhi bhi hai, sir. Understanding ka pura highway bana hua hai.”
Meeting khatam hui toh Neha ne usko ek file di. “Yeh client ke liye preliminary inputs hain. Bas isko clean karke, circulate for review. Make sure it’s crisp, with a strong narrative. We’ll circle back post-lunch.”
Aarav ne file dekhi. “Circulate for review” toh theek, but “strong narrative” aur “circle back” uske liye ab bhi mystery the. Phir bhi usne confidence ka mask pehen ke bola, “Sure, ma’am.”
Neha chali gayi. Aarav file khol ke baitha hi tha ki uska dimaag aur bhi ulta seedha ho gaya. Har page pe terms, abbreviations, notes, aur comments. Ek line thi: “Need alignment on ownership before external touchpoint.” Dusri line: “Let’s avoid scope creep.” Teesri: “Ping me once you have a draft.”
Aarav ne laptop screen ko dekha, phir ceiling ko, phir apne blank notepad ko. Uske andar ek chhoti si panic wave chali. Kya woh sach mein corporate material nahi tha? Kya sab log naturally aise hi bolte the? Kya usne graduation sirf isliye ki thi ki ab usse “scope creep” jaisi cheezon ka emotional trauma mile?
