Midnight Shift, Broken Trust
“Glitch?” manager ne ek file table pe rakhi. “Chat trail bhi glitch thi? Shift handover bhi glitch tha? And why are Sana’s credentials linked to the entries?”
Sana ka naam sunte hi uske throat mein dryness aa gayi. Woh Imran ki taraf dekh rahi thi, expecting ek simple explanation, ek “I’ll handle this,” ek “Don’t worry.” Par Imran ki aankhon mein woh support nahi, balki panic tha. I was just following.”
Sana ko aisa laga jaise floor ke saare lights ek second ke liye dim ho gaye hon. “What?” usne almost whisper kiya. “Imran, yeh tumhara idea tha.”
Imran ka face palat gaya. “No no, I mean... we both discussed it. But final entries—”
“Stop,” Sana ne pehli baar us raat thodi sakht awaaz mein bola. “Mat karo yeh.”
Cabin mein silence bahut heavy tha. Team lead ne Sana ko dekha, phir evidence ko. “We’ll check the trail,” he said. “Until then, both of you are under review.”
Review word usually corporate lagta hai. Par us raat Sana ke liye woh accusation jaisa tha.
Bahut jaldi floor pe whispers phail gaye. “Sana ka naam aa gaya.” “Imran ne bola usne bhi help ki.” “Arre yaar, ye dono toh hamesha close the.” Sana ko sabse zyada dukh is baat ka hua ki jo log kal tak usse aur Imran ko “best team” bol rahe the, aaj unki aankhon mein curiosity aur judgment dono tha. Uski hands thandi ho gayi thi, par chehre pe wohi calm bana rahi. Office mein rote hue dikhna uske nature mein nahi tha.
Us raat ghar jaake bhi Sana so nahi paayi. Husband ne poocha, “Sab theek hai?” Sana ne bas haan mein sar hila diya. Phir kuch der baad usne sab bata diya—Imran ka idea, uska trust, aur ab ka audit. Husband ne sun kar sirf itna kaha, “Main bolta hoon na, yeh job itni stress wali hai toh switch kar lo.” Sana ne thakaan se uski taraf dekha. “Switch kar loon?” usne dheere se repeat kiya. “Bills ka switch kaun karega?”
Woh chup ho gaya.
Timestamps match kar rahe the, chat messages clear the, aur pattern se saaf tha ki main plan Imran ka tha. Sana ka role minor tha—usne cover help ki thi, but fraud ka mastermind woh nahi thi. Audit manager ne bina drama ke sach nikaal liya. Sab evidence table pe aa gaya, aur Imran ki saari smartness hawa ho gayi.
Jab manager ne usse poocha, “Why did you do it?” toh pehle woh defensive hua. “I was under pressure.”
“Pressure excuse hota hai, explanation nahi,” manager ne calmly reply diya.
Imran ki aankhen niche ho gayi. Fir usne finally bol diya, “Ghar mein sabko lagta hai main kuch bhi manage nahi kar sakta. Wife taane deti hai, in-laws compare karte hain. Main bas... jaldi paisa kamaana chahta tha. Main soch raha tha ek baar bas issue solve ho gaya toh sab theek ho jayega.”
Sana ne uski taraf dekha. Na gussa tha, na sympathy. Bas ek cold clarity thi. “Toh tumne mujhe use kiya?” usne poocha.
Imran ka jawab bahut halka tha. “I didn’t mean to.”
Ye line sabse zyada dangerous hoti hai. Didn’t mean to. Jaise damage accident ho, choice nahi.
Disciplinary action hua. Imran pe official action aaya, aur uski “quick fix” strategy uske liye expensive sabit hui. Team lead ne Sana ko separately bulaya. “You made a mistake,” he said, “but you cooperated. That matters.” Sana ne bas sar hila diya. Uski job totally gone nahi hui, par trust ka damage permanent tha.
Imran ne baad mein ek half-hearted apology bheji—message mein. “Sorry yaar, panic mein galat ho gaya.” Sana ne message padha aur phone side mein rakh diya. Na reply, na fight. Kabhi-kabhi closure ka matlab hota hai aur kuch nahi bolna. Usne samajh liya tha ki kuch log pressure mein toot te nahi, bas apni cowardice ko logic ka naam de dete hain.
Husband ne bhi us raat ke baad pehli baar genuinely action lena start kiya. Usne apne office mein extra responsibility maangi, home expenses ka proper plan banaya, aur family ke saamne thoda stand lena seekha.
Woh line dono ke beech ek naya truth ban gayi.
Sana ne agle kuch hafton mein apna CV update kiya. Night shift mein hi sahi, par usne better role dhoondhna start kiya—aisa place jahan sirf targets nahi, respect bhi mile. Woh ab kisi ke “trust me” pe turant yakeen nahi karti thi. Usne seekh liya tha ki office friendship real ho sakti hai, par har warm smile safe nahi hoti. Aur sabse important, loyalty ka matlab ye nahi hota ki tum apni dignity ko collateral pe rakh do.
Hyderabad ki raat phir wahi thi—coffee, static, midnight fatigue. Par Sana ke andar kuch change ho chuka tha. Woh ab bhi calm thi, par pehle jaisi blindly calm nahi. Ab uske calmness mein boundaries thi.
Aur shayad yahi uski real victory thi. Na filmy revenge, na dramatic shouting match. Bas ek seedha sa decision—main ab kisi ke pressure ka exit route nahi banungi.
