Mic On, Moves On

Mic On, Moves On

Aarav Mehta ka Monday sirf Monday nahi hota tha. Uske liye Monday ek full-blown emotional event hota tha — jaise kisi ne bina warning ke quarterly review, team call, aur life ka purpose ek hi din mein chipka diya ho. Aur is particular Monday ko toh uski corporate soul pe extra load tha, kyunki aaj quarterly call thi. Wo bhi senior management ke saath. Matlab, woh type ka call jahan sab log “quick sync” bolke apni poori personality chhupa lete hain.

Aarav subah se hi ghar mein ajeeb sa restless tha. Delhi-NCR ki traffic aur office ke pressure ka combination uske andar already ek internal earthquake chala raha tha. Upar se uska one-bedroom flat, jahan sofa bhi thoda judgmental lagta tha, us din aur zyada silent tha. Usne laptop open kiya, water bottle side mein rakhi, aur apne aap se bola, “Okay bro, aaj bas calm rehna hai. No bakchodi. No extra movement. Bas professional vibe.”

Phir usne ek deep breath liya, aur bina kisi logical reason ke, stress release ke naam pe dance practice start kar di.

Pehle halka sa shoulder shake. Phir ek do steps. Phir full Bollywood entry mode.

Aarav ka favourite stress move tha ek imaginary stage pe perform karna, jahan background mein slow motion wind ho aur audience khud uski energy se impressed ho jaaye. Wo mirror ke saamne khud ko dekhkar bol bhi raha tha, “Aarav, you are not just a marketing executive. You are a brand.” Aur phir usne ek dramatic turn liya, jaise uska next campaign nahi, kisi music video ka climax ho.

Problem bas itni thi ki usne assume kiya tha camera off hai. Mic off hai. Aur uska laptop usse loyal samajhkar uski privacy maintain karega.

Lekin laptops, especially corporate laptops, kabhi loyal nahi hote.

Call start hone mein bas do minute bache the, aur Aarav ab bhi apne dance mode mein tha. Usne ek final move kiya — one hand in the air, ek leg slightly bent, aur face pe pure confidence ka expression — exactly usi moment pe screen pe notification blink hua: “Meeting starting now.”

Aarav ka body freeze hua.

Literally.

Jaise kisi ne uske andar ka electricity bill ekdum se disconnect kar diya ho.

Usne aankh ke kone se screen dekha. Camera on.

Mic on.

And the entire team on.

Ek second ke liye room mein aisi silence chhayi jaise kisi ne Gurgaon ke kisi office floor mein AC band kar diya ho. Aarav ka dimaag blank, phir super blank, phir ek full panic siren mode mein chala gaya.

Uske saamne screen pe faces dikhne lage — Neha Kapoor, sharp eyebrows ke saath, already judging everything; Ritesh Malhotra, formal shirt aur over-polished smile mein, jaise kisi press conference mein ho; aur neeche Pooja Singh, jo usually silent rehti thi, par uske lips pe ek almost-hidden smile already tremble kar rahi thi.

Aarav ka first thought tha: “Bas. Main internet history ka part ban gaya.”

Neha ne pehle blink kiya, phir uski eyebrows aur upar chali gayin. Uska face woh exact expression tha jo team lead tab banati hai jab usse lagta hai ki uske saare career decisions uske saamne test ho rahe hain. Ritesh ne ek second ke liye apna throat clear kiya, jaise professionalism ko physically throat mein adjust kar rahe hon. Pooja ne apna camera angle thoda change kiya, par Aarav ko pata tha — woh definitely smile chhupa rahi thi.

Aarav ne ek awkward jump back kiya aur chair se almost takra gaya. “Uh… good morning, team. Sorry, I was— I mean, I was just—”

Uski voice itni crack hui ki usne khud hi apne sentence pe trust lose kar diya.

Neha ne instantly tone tight ki. “Aarav, are you aware your camera and mic were on?”

Aarav ne ek second ke liye eyes close ki. “Yes. I mean, no. Actually… yes, but not in the way you think.”

Ritesh ne ek polite cough diya. “Let’s maintain composure, team. Technical glitches happen. But perhaps, Aarav, we should ensure better discipline before a client-facing review.”

“Client-facing?” Aarav ke dimaag ne repeat kiya. “Sir, this is internal quarterly call. Main toh bas—”

“Bas kya?” Neha ne sharply cut kiya. “Aarav, this is exactly why we keep saying camera checks, mic checks, and a professional setup. You can’t be doing… whatever that was… on a business call.”

Aarav ka chehra aur laal ho gaya. “Ma’am, that was stress relief exercise.”

Pooja ne apna mute button press karke kuch seconds ke liye laugh suppress ki. Uske shoulders thoda shake bhi kiye. Aarav ne screen pe uska reaction notice kar liya, aur usse aur zyada embarrassment feel hua.

Ritesh, jo situation ko pehle scandal samajh chuka tha, ab usse rescue mission mein convert karne ki koshish kar raha tha. “Alright, let’s not overreact. The point is to move forward constructively. Aarav, next time please ensure your device settings are properly configured. We’ll treat this as a minor learning moment.”

“Minor learning moment?” Neha ne almost unbelieving tone mein repeat kiya. “Sir, he was dancing live on call.”

Ritesh ne ek soft smile maintain ki, par uski aankhon mein clear panic tha. “Well, yes, but one could argue it reflects team spirit in an unconventional form.”

Aarav ne ek stunned look diya. “Sir?”

Ritesh ne ek tiny nod diya, jaise abhi usne apni PR strategy invent ki ho. “Corporate environments benefit from energy. Perhaps Aarav has reminded us all to stay dynamic.”

Neha ne directly camera mein dekha, aur Aarav ko laga ab uska promotion review bhi uske dance steps ke saath rotate ho jayega. “Dynamic? Sir, if this goes into any review deck, I’m going to need a separate slide for damage control.”

Pooja finally unmute hui, voice calm aur amused. “Actually, I think the slide title can be: ‘Engagement Initiatives in Challenging Times.’”

Aarav ka panic thoda sa confuse hua. “Pooja, please don’t make this worse.”

Pooja ne innocent face banaya. “Main toh bas culture observe kar rahi hoon.”
